The original idea was to build an open canoe and use it for sailing and paddling. However, we had second thoughts about using a homebuilt wooden boat on moving water. Not wanting to see all our hard work broken into small pieces, we had a change of plan and bought a "plastic" boat. This was then adapted for sailing by making a leeboard, rudder and fitting an old windsurfer mast with a commercially made sail.

First Sail - Coniston
After some very unseasonal weather, we joined in with the OCSG rally on Sunday.

The wind did pick up later.
Most things seemed to work, apart from lowering and raising the rudder. The blade was really to tight in the stock and also the lines need a small fairlead on top of the stock.
The is a small plastic bush on the mast, held in place by a screw and some epoxy glue. This drops through the keyhole in the mast thwart and once turned 180 degrees, stops the mast from falling out.
